National headquarters for an online business development company. Concrete Inc., a young and growing media company, wanted a new headquarters that maintained the industrial character of the landmarked Starrett-Lehigh building they occupied. The existing loft-like floors reinforced their idea of a completely open and “democratic” workplace, but spatial definition and privacy were also necessary. Translucent resin tanks were used throughout the interior, both as free-standing rooms and as attachments to interior walls, to achieve this. To maintain the sweeping views of the Hudson River, the design strategy was to place all the enclosed spaces, such as meeting rooms, technical centers, and service areas, along an articulated interior wall. The workstations and social areas are deployed in an open field to leave the continuous, curving window wall completely free of obstructions.
