Charlene Walton is a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in both print and interactive design. Her work encompasses corporate identity design, communications and packaging, as well as interactive design for websites, electronic newsletters, and social media campaigns.

Her illustration work has enhanced many of her projects, and she was selected by the Relais & Chateaux Group to create the artwork for the limited addition print presented at their 36th Annual International Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa.

In 2007 Charlene and her husband Andy Walton founded Cuie&Co., a graphic design and web development studio based in Cape Town.  With a focus on conceptualizing what will attract the right audience for a given client and keep them coming back for more, the studio delivers sustainable design strategies that are simple, memorable and flexible.  They serve a diverse clientele including corporations, biotech companies, professional practices and institutions, as well as retail, hospitality, and start-up ventures.

Charlene studied Graphic Design at the AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town, South Africa, where she graduated in 1999.  For two years after receiving her diploma Charlene worked in London and traveled extensively.  Upon her returned to Cape Town, she worked first as a designer for a studio specialized in wine packaging, then moved on to an agency focused on corporate identity design and print communications.  Later she joined a web design agency to expand her knowledge of interactive design and round out the skill set she would need to start her own studio.

Coming from an artistic background, she has always been very comfortable expressing herself within the creative context.  For Charlene the creative process in an integral part of her life.  While never loosing sight of the tone and goals unique to each project, she tends to incorporate a touch of humor in her work.  “This runs parallel to what I look for in life; I want to enjoy the process as much as the materialization of my ideas”.

As an additional creative outlet, Charlene and Andy — her “eagle-eyed creative director and dreamer” — founded BLANKspace in 2011.  BLANKspace is a gallery shop and on-line shop selling limited addition prints, letterpress stationery, gift cards and wrap.  Whimsical and quirky, humorous and charming, the gallery peeps out of a 100 year old building on Roeland Street in the newly designated Design & Innovation District in Cape Town, The Fringe.
