Alberto Couceiro was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has lived and worked in Berlin, Germany, since 1994. In 2002, together with Alejandra Tomei, he founded Animas Film, a creative studio specializing in animation cinematography. The studio, with it’s expertise and technical facilities for high quality animation services from script to screen, produces animation for ad spots, TV series, short films and feature films.

Animas combines art, craft and technology using stop-motion, model making, compositing, motion graphics, visual effects and digital techniques to create their own unique blend of animation. In collaboration with their partners and co-workers they continually explore and improve their art and craft, to create audience engaging animation.

Since 2010 they have collaborated closely with German TV network ZDF on “Toll!”, a cultural news magazine, and “Frontal 21”, a satirical year end political review. Animas cleverly translates the satirical text of the shows writers into animated moving images for the shows. Alberto has worked as director, animator, and modeler on children’s television programs such as “Pondorondo” and “Tolle Sachen”. He has also worked on many film postproduction projects including Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards” and Wim Wenders “Don’t Come Knocking”.

In addition to work for media and business clients, Alberto and Alejandra also produce their own award winning original animated features. Their film “TV City” was featured at more than 30 international film festivals, and had numerous special screenings including at the MoMA in New York City. It was honored with many awards including a prestigious Cinéfondation prize at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, and Best Animation Film at the Buenos Aires Film Festival, amongst others. Their animated short, The Shirt, appeared at more than 20 international film festivals and won the DAAD Prize for Outstanding Artistic Accomplishment, and Best Animation Film at the Rochester Int’l Film Festival in New York. They are currently working on their latest animated short, “Automatic Fitness”.

Their passion and skill has earned the studio the support of the DEFA foundation, FFA German Federal Film Board, Medien Board Berlin-Brandenburg, BKM Federal Ministry of Culture, Film Office Bremen and Arte Channel, as well as companies like Kodak, Arri and Schwarz Film.

Alberto earned his degree in Animation from the Konrad Wolf Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam Babelsberg. In Buenos Aires, he graduated from the School of Arts Manuel Belgrano, and then studied photography. Before shifting his focus to animation, Alberto worked as a graphic designer, photographer, and screen print artist. He and Alejandra began their creative collaboration in Buenos Aires as they worked with an array of individuals from the Argentine art scene in the late 80’s to produce hand screened print series.
