Wolfgang Schwarz is co-founder and partner at symbologie.. He manages business operations and directs project strategy. He also guides the ever changing technological aspects of our creative business. His vision and ingenuity keep symbologie. and its clients on a forward trajectory. For more than 15 years, Wolfgang has directed and ensured the success of a wide variety of projects for clients such as Procter & Gamble, DC Comics, Disney, Gillette, General Mills, and many others.
Wolfgang joined the business in the mid 1990’s leading its transformation from traditional design studio to tech savvy creative consultancy. He has since guided the firm to its recent rebrand with the launch of symbologie.. Introducing an expanded network structure and full spectrum palette of brand development services has ideally positioned us to help clients make the most of opportunities presented by new technologies and a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
Before joining the design consultancy, Wolfgang combined his scientific expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to develop original software programs for complex Wall Street investment products. Prior to that, as a physicist, he conducted fundamental research developing new methods for etching faster, more powerful computer chips. His highly respected project received federal (DARPA) and private sector (IBM) funding.
Wolfgang graduated from Columbia University where he earned a Ph.D. in Physics, as well as Master of Science and Master of Arts degrees. Born and raised in Germany, Wolfgang first attended the University of Karlsruhe where he received a Diplom Physik (Masters). Before moving to New York City, Wolfgang was selected to participate in a Geneva Arms Reduction Talks simulation — a two week program, sponsored by the US State Dept. and German government, seeking to gain new insight by observing an international group of elite students from political and natural sciences.
After finishing high school in Germany, Wolfgang took a year to travel the US on his own, making his way through 30 of the 50 states on foot, by bus, motorcycle and car. Eager to experience the country’s diverse natural beauty as well as its people, he chose to stay with families he met along the way. His interest in cultural exchange, and his unquenchable creative and intellectual curiosity are a valued influence on our work at symbologie..
Wolfgang speaks fluent German, English, and French. He’s symbologie.’s rare breed, a rocket scientist with a laser sharp eye for good design.
