Stephen Molloy is an architect and product designer who is fascinated by the poetry of mathematics. A fascination he expresses in his work through exploration of patterns, contrasting scales, and multiplication of forms. Stephen was born and raised in Ireland and studied in London before settling in Berlin. He has led design teams on a wide array of high concept commercial projects for Graft Architects with an emphasis on luxury healthcare and hospitality. Projects included the Ku64 Kid’s Club dentist on the Kurfürstendamm, and work for the Doubletree by Hilton hotel group. Parallel to commercial work Stephen has developed designs for museums, such as the Museum Sander in Darmstadt, luxury private homes, and urban space proposals throughout Germany.

As co-founder of The Fundamental Group architects, Stephen has developed high quality environments for traditional healthcare providers. With an architectural approach that focuses on customer experience, his work takes health care beyond clinical, and shows how the power of design can enhance both well being and the success of healthcare practices. He has also worked on a proposal for bringing retail walk-in healthcare to the German market.

Stephen is also passionate about reaching consumers directly with product design. Through The Fundamental Shop he and partner Gunnar Rönsch offer a series of furniture and accessories for sale from their own webshop. The products are also distributed in collaboration with curated design platforms such as Selekkt.com and Monoqi.

Currently a guest lecturer at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Stephen also teaches a design studio and lectures on themes such as the suburban dream and the various iterations of built utopia. He also writes for publications such as TRAFFIC Magazine.

Stephen speaks fluent English and German. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University College London and a Diplom-Ingenieur Architecture from the Universität der Künste Berlin.
